I don’t care if you think ‘It will push them to work harder.’ Because it isn’t a joke, and it will not always make someone want to work harder to prove you wrong.Sometimes they accept it as a fact, then they live with a mindset of “Why try when I’m just going to fail?”

this is one of the reasons why i suffered so severely in high school from depression. my parents always emphasized the bad, forgetting about the good. “you could be such a good student if you just tried harder. Yes, I know you got a few As but you also got a B. Just try harder and youll get straight As. Dont you want to be on the Honor Roll and the Honor Society? You need to focus on whats important and thats things that matter. You can do better. I dont know why you dont try.”
So I gave up. I figured if all they would ever see is the bad, what was the point in trying anymore? I let myself fall very deeply into that hole of self hatred, even when I told my mom how shitty she made me feel. “It isnt for me, Beatriz! It’s for you! My mom used to hit me if i brought home a B! Parents dont realize that just because they dont physically hit us, the words they use are just as bad, if not worse.
